A Big Week for Microscopy, Outreach, and Community at CCEM!

What a week at the Canadian Centre for Electron Microscopy!
We’ve just wrapped up a spectacular stretch of outreach, education, and celebration—and we couldn’t be prouder of the momentum and community spirit on display:
Spectra Ultra Grand Opening
We officially celebrated our flagship instrument with a scientific workshop and a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Andrea Horwath. A huge thank you to Thermo Fisher Scientific, Systems for Research (SFR), and McMaster University for making this possible.
CCEM Open House
Over 150 visitors from McMaster and the broader community joined us for our first-ever public open house! From lab tours to microscope demos and kids’ activities, it was amazing to see curiosity and science collide.
We welcomed 15 international microscopist students and instructors for a week-long program of advanced lectures and hands-on demos. Thanks to everyone who contributed their time and expertise to train the next generation of microscopy experts.
A heartfelt thank you to all our staff, volunteers, instructors, and guests who made these events a resounding success. The future of microscopy is bright—and it’s built on community.
